Marin County home-staging, interior design firm making a big upgrade

A fast-growing Marin County home decor company is set for a major scale-up.

San Anselmo-based The Still Collective LLC leased all the former FedEx facility at 1637 E. Francisco Blvd. in San Rafael. The national courier vacated the 28,500-square-foot warehouse and office building this fall, according to the property listing by Cushman & Wakefield.

The Still Collective is relocating its warehouse from 3060 Kerner Blvd. in San Rafael, where it occupies several suites totaling about 6,400 square feet, according to Nathan Ballard, one of the real estate agents representing the company, and the listing information. Those leases expire between early next year and early 2028.

Sperling couldn’t be reached for comment.

What began in 2019 as a two-woman operation, with Lori Sperling as a creator and Ashley Ruiz as a stylist, has grown into a multifaceted enterprise spanning home staging for real-estate listings, interior design and project management. Sperling started the venture as L&A Home Styling and rebranded it as The Still Collective in mid-2021.

The company describes its aesthetic as “beautiful, soulful, California cool designs with a nod to slow living.”

The Still Collective added retail to its portfolio as well, opening two new shops last year: one inside The Lumber Yard at 129 Miller Ave. in Mill Valley and another at The Ranch at 10 Olema Road in Fairfax. It also has a store at 562 San Anselmo Ave. in San Anselmo.

Sperling, a former hedge-fund trader who moved to Marin County from East Los Angeles 26 years ago, launched the business after spending 17 years as a stay-at-home mother, according to a Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce promotion for The Lumber Yard opening. She has built the brand around warm natural materials, textured earth-tone palettes, and distinctive vintage-meets-modern pieces curated to create “cozy and interesting spaces.”

Supporting female entrepreneurs remains central to the company’s identity and a driving force behind the “collective” concept embedded in its name, the business group said.

Theo Banks and Nathan Ballard of Keegan & Coppin Co. Inc. represented The Still Collective in the Sept. 10 lease deal in San Rafael. Meridian Commercial’s Matt Brown and Cess Cecchin represented the property owner, 1637 Francisco LLC.
