This Interior Designer Turned a Family Vacation into Part of Her Home’s Decor

Your home can be a visual map of your life. Your experiences, memories, and travels are reflected in everything from the furniture you sit on to the color of your walls. It’s part of what makes interior design such a fulfilling — and constantly evolving — process.

For Miami interior designer Geri Del Vento, home is a place to celebrate family. Geri and her husband are passionate about sharing their Venezuelan and Argentinian heritages with their two children, from the recipes of their youth to family time near the water. Geri recalls that her parents took the family to the beach every Sunday.

In the spirit of creating memories for her children the way her parents did for her, Geri and her husband have made it a point to travel around the U.S. as a family, combining new adventures with precious “we time.”

“‘We time’ is about engaging in the activities we love most, creating lasting memories together, and capturing those moments so we can cherish them for years to come,” Geri says. She loves to get her crew out of their comfort zone and into a family adventure, like their recent road trip and hike to the beach. The whole family clambered over enormous boulders to get to the shoreline — a big scenery change from the flat city streets of Miami!

With a stylish blend of comfort and capability, the 2025 Ford Explorer gives Geri the confidence to take her family on any adventure. It’s also packed with enough comforts to keep the whole crew happy en route. The SUV’s redesigned interior has a new color palette, spacious available PowerFold® third-row seat, and sophisticated mixed materials on the dashboard and door panels. And with a 13.2-inch touchscreen, the Ford Digital Experience system enables drivers to access their favorite apps and services from Google and Amazon.

Geri wanted to bring her family’s memorable trip home in a visual way that her family could enjoy every day. She created a dining table scene evocative of the beach’s rugged landscape, using paint mixed with baking soda to give two glass vases a weathered, textured effect.

Then she incorporated earthy materials and colors, like gauzy linen and warm wicker, to set a seaside-worthy table. Finally, she filled cylindrical glass vases with shells and rocks inspired by the keepsakes her kids gathered on the beach. Now, every meal can be a reminder of their beach adventure — and inspiration for adventures to come.

“I believe these adventures are what my kids will cherish the most as they grow older,” Geri says. “Watching my kids be mesmerized by the rocks was a truly awe-inspiring moment for me. What we often take for granted seems so magnificent in their eyes.”
