See the fiery Halloween decoration that’s almost too realistic
A homeowner known for creating spooky Halloween setups might have just outdone himself this year.
- A South Carolina couple created a viral Halloween display that makes their house look like it is on fire.
- The realistic decoration has prompted multiple calls to the local fire department.
- The display runs nightly from 8-10 p.m. through Halloween.
A South Carolina couple decided that the standard pumpkin Halloween decorations weren’t enough for them and decided to bring the heat to their decorating game this year.
If you’re in Fountain Inn this Halloween season and just so happen to see a home that appears to be engulfed in fire, make sure it’s not Sam Lee and Amanda Riggins Peden’s home. The couple has become known in Fountain Inn for their “big” spooky season decorations over the past five years, but this Halloween display is burning down the internet with an all too realistic display of billowing smoke and rising flames.
A Facebook video, with more than 87,000 shares, shows the couple’s house engulfed in what appears to be fire, with bright yellow flames dancing behind each window as smoke pushes out into the night from underneath the front porch awning.
But Lee is mum on just how he got the display to be so realistic.
“You can easily Google it and find out how it’s done,” he said to USA TODAY, apologizing for not being more forthcoming.
Lee’s ideas may be able to be found on Google, but is it really enough to make a display that is realistic enough that the fire department gets involved?
Has anyone called the fire department about the Fountain Inn Halloween display?
“It’s got some real feel to it,” Fountain Inn Fire Department Chief Russell Alexander told USA TODAY.
So much so that the fire department has received multiple calls since the display went live on Oct. 3, Alexander said. For safety, the department always sends a truck to ensure there is no real fire.
And it isn’t the first time the department has been called for the decorations.
Lee used similar decorations in 2023, and while he doesn’t think it was as successful as the 2025 display, Alexander said the fire department still received about 30 calls over the course of that October about the house.
Where is Fountain Inn, South Carolina?
If you are up for the trip to see Lee and Peden’s display, Fountain Inn is just about 21 miles south of Greenville and about 30 miles from Spartanburg.
When is the Fountain Inn ‘fire house’ Halloween display on?
If you’d like to check out Lee and Peden’s display, it is on from 8-10 p.m. every night until October 31.
